Trip Overview

This fantastic four-day tour involves riding on 60% traffic-free tarmac and gravel bike paths and trails around the Vale of York and the east Yorkshire coastline. You'll get to experience the famous Yorkshire countryside, superb riverside riding, the North York Moors and explore the historic streets of Beverley and York. Trail cycling on this route is in abudance with 3 purpose built cycle trails linking most of the entire journey. The Yorkshire coastline is extremely picquesue with attractions such as Humbumby Gap, Flamborough Head, Whitby and Staiths all perfect to see by bike. From county to coast and everything inbetween, it’s a special part of the UK for all to explore.

DAY 1 - York to Beverley (60km)

Our first day is a most flat start to the tour. Starting out from York, we head out to the market town of Beverley. We ride eastwards on flat terrain to Stanford Bridge before eventually reaching Pocklington in time for afternoon tea. To reach our destination we join the impressive Hudson Way rail trail which cuts through the Yorkshire Wolds from Market Weighton to Beverley

DAY 2 - Beverley to Bridlington (59 km)

It’s time to head to the coast! We will ride out of Beverley and join the Hornsea Rail Trail for 20km of traffic free riding all the way to Hornsea. With the smell of the sea air, we take maily scenic backroads all the way to Bridlington on a maily flat route.

DAY 3 - Bridlington to Scarborough (40 km)

A short but very scenic day of on and off-road riding. We first visit beautiful Flamborough Head which is an 8 mile long chalk headland with stunning cliffs and then onto arguably the best beach in Yorkshire, Hunmanby Gap. The seaside fishing town of Filey is the perfect stop for lunch before riding along the coast to Scarborough

DAY 4 - Scarborough to Saltburn (66km)

The hardest but most pictueque day of the tour sees us finish the tour in style. It’ll be an early start as there is so much to see along this beautiful coastline follow the famous Cinder trail to Robin Hood’s Bay. This place is a must visit so there will be a nice stop here to see the quaint streets and chilled vibe as well as allowing stops in Whitby and Staiths - both fantastic spots. The Cinder trail is one of the best trails in the UK with fantastic views and secluded coves.

Grading

Challenging Adventure 4/5. This ride is graded as ‘Challenging’ because whilst the distance is manageable for a semi-regular rider with medium fitness, there are hilly days of riding, both on and off road.

Terrain and Elevation

Day 3 & 4 encounter hilly sections which are steep in parts. The average amount of uphill riding per day is 580m and the highest elevation is 880m. The other two days are fairly flat. We’ll use either back roads, country lanes or tarmac/gravel cycling paths.
